Happy Feet!

  • Happy Feet Movie on December 16, Wednesday Night on ABC Family
  • Alien Abduction Game: Several Plastic Toys
  1. Place several toys on a table or floor.
  2. Then let everyone look at the toys.
  3. Then have someone leave the room.  Remove one or two toys.
  4. Have the person who left the room come back and see if they can see what toys are missing.
  • Don't Drop The Egg Game: Plastic Egg, Music 
  1. Its just like hot potato
  • Penguin Fishing Game: Dowel, String, Paper Clip, White Sheet, Cardboard, Fish Pictures, Pipe Cleaner
  1. Glue fish onto pieces of cardboard.  Let dry.
  2. Cut and bend pipe cleaner into a u-shape and glue to the ends of the pipe cleaner and shove in-between the cardboard. Let dry.
  3. Attach some string to a dowel. Secure with glue. Let dry.
  4. Attach paper clip to the other end and make a hook.
  5. Place a white sheet over a chair or place a cardboard table on its side(Put out bottom legs to hold it.  Then lay the fish in a bucket or the ground.
  6. Have your child stand on the side that the fish are not and hang their hook over the chair or table.  See if they can hook a fish.
  • Penguin Bowling Game: 10 Plastic Bottles, Black and White Paint, Gogglie Eyes, Ball, Orange Craft Foam,  10 Medium or Large Styrofoam Balls for the Head, Yellow Tinsel Pipe Cleaners
  1. Take 10 plastic bottles and paint them like a penguin.  Paint a white belly on the penguin. Paint the rest black. 
  2. Paint the heads black. Let dry.
  3. Then glue on eyes. 
  4. Cut a little orange nose and glue it on.
  5. Then cut yellow tinsel pipe cleaners for the hair on top of the penguins head.
  6. Set them up like bowling and begin bowling.
  • Snowball Soap Surprise: Food Processors or Cheese Grater, 4(4.5-ounce) bars of ivory soap, tiny plastic toys(like penguins)
  1. Use a food processor fitted with the grater attachment to shred the four bars of soap.  (You can also grate the bars by hand with a cheese grater.) Pour the soap pieces into a large bowl.
  2. With your hands, mix in about a half cup of lukewarm water, a little bit at a time, until the mixture is squishy and claylike.
  3. For each snowball, scoop up a heaping handful of soap and mold it into a ball.  Poke a deep hole in the center with your finger, insert a toy, and refill the hole.  Lay the finished snowballs on a cookie sheet and let them dry thoroughly.  Makes 8.
  • Glittery Window Clings: Cookie Sheet, Pen or Pencil, Waxed Paper, Dimensional Fabric Paint(Scribbles brand has a Glittering Crystal.)
  1. Draw a snowflake template(small, compact designs work best), or download one at FamilyFun.com/magazine.  Lay the template faceup on the cookie sheet and cover it with the waxed paper.
  2. Using a thin line of the fabric paint(approximately 1/8-inch wide), trace the snowflake design on the waxed paper as shown, making sure all of the paint lines connect.  Let the window cling dry overnight, then carefully peel it from the waxed paper. 
  • Penguin Pom Pom: Pom Poms(Black-1-1/2", 1"), 1" White 5 mm), Pipe Cleaners(Red, Orange, and White 9 mm, White 3 mm, Black bump), Red, Orange and White Felt, Two 6 mm Wiggle Eyes, Red Embroidery Floss, Needle
  1. Glue the smaller black pom pom onto the larger one.  Let dry.
  2. Cut out a white circle and glue on the belly of the penguin.
  3. Cut out a half moon out of the white felt and glue it on the small pom pom for part of the eyes. Glue on wiggle eyes on white part.
  4. Cut out a little orange triangle for the nose and glue it just below the eyes.
  5. Cut a small red triangle for the hat and glue it just above the eyes.
  6. Glue a small white pipe-cleaner across the triangle for the brim.  Glue small white pom pom on top of the hat.
  7. Take the two black bump pipe cleaners and glue them on for arms.
  8. Cut a piece of the orange pipe cleaner and bend it in the middle and glue it on the bottom for feet.
  9. Cut out red and white pipe-cleaner, the same length, for the candy-cane the penguin will be holding.
  10. Glue a loop of red floss on back of the penguin for hanging.
  • Let -It-Snow-T-Shirt: Black Marker, Paper, Cardboard, White Cotton Shirt, Tacky Glue, Sponge Brush(or a new kitchen sponge), Fabric Paint
  1. Use a black marker to draw a thick-lined snowflake template on the paper, or download one at FamilyFun.com/magazine.
  2. Place the template over the cardboard and slip both inside the shirt, centering them behind the upper front of the garment.  You should be able to see the template through the shirt.
  3. Using a thin line of tacky glue(about 1/4-inch wide), trace the snowflake design on the shirt.  Let it dry for 10 minutes, then fill in the gaps with additional glue.  Let the glue dry completely, until it is transparent (approximately 3 hours.)
  4. Dip the sponge brush in the paint and dab around the snowflake, completely covering the surrounding area.  Use less paint toward the outer edge of the design.  Let the paint dry overnight.
  5. Soak the tee in warm water for about 10 minutes or until the glue softens.  Peel off the glue and let the shirt dry, then follow the package instructions to set the fabric paint.
  • Snowflakes: Paper Cups or Bowls to trace, a pencil, scissors, white craft glue and glitter
  1. Cut circles from white paper, and fold them into fourths or eighths.
  2. Cut small pieces from the area within the folds and open them to reveal snowflake patterns.
  3. Place glue onto the snowflake and add glitter to it.
  • Penguin: a White or Light-Colored Used Envelope, a Cup, A Pencil, Scissors, and Glue, Crayons or Markers including a black one, Orange Construction Paper
  1. Trace part of a cup in one of the bottom corners of the envelope.
  2. Fold over the tip of the corner to make the penguin's head.  Draw on eyes and a beak.
  3. Use a black crayon or maker to draw wings.  Cut out the penguin.
  4. Cut out a pair of rounded orange feet.  Bend up the straight end and glue the feet in place.
  • Egg Cup Penguin: Egg Carton, Black and White Paint, Black Bump Pipe Cleaners, Gogglie Eyes, Orange Construction Paper
  1. Cut out two egg sections.  Glue on top of each other, to form the body. Let dry.
  2. Paint the penguins white oval belly. Then paint the rest black.
  3. Then glue a black pump on each side for the arms.
  4. Glue on eyes.
  5. Cut out an orange triangle shape for the beak and glue in place.

  • Igloo: Tent: Pretend to be in Alaska and the tent is an igloo.  You can go ice-fishing too. You can also use a sheet over a table too, if you have no tent.

  • Footprint Penguins: Black and White Construction Paper, Chalk, Orange Construction Paper, Wiggle Eyes
  1. Trace with chalk, an adults foot with their shoe on, on black paper. Cut out.
  2. Then trace a child's foot with  their shoe on, on white paper.  Cut out.
  3. Then glue the small foot onto the bigger foot toward the bottom for the belly of the penguin.
  4. Then glue on eyes.
  5. Cut out an orange triangle for the beak and glue in place.
  6. Cut out 2 penguin wings to glue on the sides of the penguin.  You can make these by tracing hands onto black paper with fingers closed.  Glue on the sides.
  • Don't Break The Ice Game
  • Matching Game: Different Pictures of mother and baby(separate) penguins, all sorts, index cards or card stock.
  1. Take each picture and glue them onto their own card. 
  2. Then see if your child can pick which mommy goes with which baby.
  • Frozen Grape KabobsGrapes, Toothpicks
  1. Place three grapes on a toothpick and freeze them.
  2. Take them out when your ready to eat them and have a nice frozen treat.

  1. Play Music and let your child dance like penguins!
  • Sea Lion, Sea Lion, Penguin Game: Its just like Duck, Duck, Goose
  • Egg GameBallons, Flour, Funnel
  1. Fill each ballon(not blown), with flour.  Use a funnel to fill.
  2. Tie off each ballon.  
  3. These will be used for Eggs. 
  4. Place these eggs onto the top of your child's feet and see if they can make it to the finish line without losing their little penguin egg.

  • Playing in the Snow: Shaving Cream, Small Toys, Tray
  1. Place some small toys onto a tray or piece of wax paper, which should be on some newspaper.
  2. Then, place shaving cream over the toys and let your child try to find the toys in the snow.
