  8. Directions on how To Make a Nice Treasure Tin:
  9. Cover the lid of an empty metal candy tin with glue.  The glue will help the clay stick to the tin.  Spread a thin layer over the surface.
  10. Cover the lid only, or coat the entire tin if you plan to cover the bottom of the tin with clay. Let the glue dry until it looks clear.
  11. Roll out a large, thin sheet of clay, large enough to cover the lid.  Press the clay over the lid.  Smooth the clay across the surface and push it down, making sure you press out any air bubbles.
  12. Continue pressing the edges of the clay down around the sides of the lid.
  13. Use a knife to trim away the excess clay around the edge of the lid.
  14. On the back of the tin, trim the clay around the hinges with the tip of the knife.
  15. Use colored bits of clay to make decorations for the clay surface on the lid.  You can use small bits of clay to make flower petals.
  16. Add balls of clay to make the centers of the flowers.  Add dots or any other decoration you like.
  17. Make a log of clay, then roll the log into a thin rope.  Put the rope of clay around the edge of the lid, pressing it down firmly.(Note that the rope is not hanging off the edge; it's on top of the very edge of the clay sheet.)
  18. Bake the tin in an oven at 275 degrees F. for 20 minutes.  After the tin cools, repeat steps 1-5 if you want to cover the bottom half of the tin.  Trim the clay on the bottom of the box with the lid closed.  Rebake the tin for an additional 20 minutes.  Be careful when you take it out of the oven--the metal is hot!

  6. Pinch the tape along the top of the curves so that the tape covers the top edges.  Repeat to cover the edges of the second heart.
  7. Layer the 2 hearts together, matching the edges. Cut another thin piece of tape and place it along the straight edge of the hearts.  Pinch the tape over the edge to hold the 2 hearts together.  Trim off the excess tape at the bottom of the heart.  Repeat on the other side, taping the sides together.

  7. If you choose to slice the beads, slice them using a table knife.  Slice the beads about 1/2 inch thick.  Use the pieces of drinking straw to make the holes as you did before.  Let these beads dry just as you did the other beads.
