Tuesday Tips:

When The Bottle Of Detergent Is Bigger
Than The Washing Machine

Everyone knows that generally, the larger the bottle or box of laundry detergent you buy, the lower the unit price will be.

So if you have room to store the larger size, it almost always pays to buy detergent in quantity.  However, if you don't have space in your laundry room for the super-economy-size package or you find it  too big and heavy to deal with, you'll need to find a container for a reasonable amount of detergent so that it's accessible when you need it.

Here are a few containers that make terrific detergent holders.
  1. One-and two-liter plastic soda bottles.  These take up less room than gallon-plus bottles of liquid detergent and bleach.  And with the help of a funnel, you can refill them easily.
  2. Dishwashing liquid bottles.  The pop-up, squirt-style cap is especially good for pinpoint applications of liquid detergent to treat heavy concentrations of dirt and grime.
  3. Pump spray bottles.  Filled with diluted detergent, these containers make it easy to apply a presoak solution to a stain.
  4. One-gallon plastic ice cream tubs.  They're perfect for holding manageable amounts of your favorite powdered detergent.
Tip was found in the book Vinegar, Duct Tape, Milk Jugs & More by Earl Proulx.  I Love this book.
