Wacky Wednesday: Tea Party!

Wacky Wednesday:
Tea Party!

Crafts:
  • Teapot Tea-Bag Holder: Round container with plastic lid, self-adhesive paper, bottle cap, construction paper, fabric trim
  1. Cover the outside of the container and lid with the self-adhesive paper.
  2. Glue the bottle cap to the center of the lid.  Cover the top of the cap with construction paper.  Add trims.
  3. Cut a strip of construction paper.  Glue the two ends of the strip to the container to make the handle.
  4. Roll a square of paper into a spout.  Secure the rolled spout with tape.  Cut four 1-inch slits around one end of the spout.  Spread the tabs out, and glue the spout to the container.  Use tape to help hold the spout in place while the glue dries.  Trim the spout.
  • Tea-Bag Caddy: Plastic dish-soap, pencil, nontoxic permanent markers
  1. Cut away the top part of the bottle.
  2. Sketch the handle of the teapot on one side of the bottle and the spout on the other.
  3. Sketch the lid between the spout and the handle.  Cut away the sides of the bottle, leaving the lid, spout, and handle.
  4. Fold the parts of the teapot out and down on each side.
  5. Use the markers to decorate the caddy.
  • Woven Trivet: 11 craft sticks, 3 different kinds of ribbon, cool-temperature glue gun/glue sticks
  1. Take 1 craft stick and glue the ends of 7 craft sticks to it.
  2. Fold first ribbon over the seventh craft stick and glue the to back side.  Begin weaving ribbon over-and-uner the 7 craft sticks.  Fold ribbon over first craft stick and glue to back side.
  3. Glue second ribbon to the back side of the first craft stick, then weave over-and-under sticks.  Glue to back side of last craft stick.  Make sure that you weave the ribbons over alternating craft sticks.
  4. Continue weaving 3 ribbons in this order, until the entire length of the sticks are woven.  Note you can alternate ribbons in any design that you want.
  5. Glue 1 craft stick under all 7 on opposite end.
  • Tube Tea Set: Cardboard tubes, paint, colored paper, plastic-foam tray, scissors, glue, various items for decoration: buttons, beads, stickers, glitter, chenille sticks
  1. Cut a section from a large wrapping paper tube for the teapot.  Mine was 4" tall.  Cut sections from a medium-sized tube for your cups.  You can use smaller tubes for the cream and sugar containers, but you can use whatever size.
  2. Decorate your tubes.  You can sponge paint yours, but covering them with wrapping paper or fabric would look terrific.  How about an old-fashioned flowered design?  (Don't forget to paint the insides of the tubes, too.)
  3. To make the spouts, first cut triangular shapes from the tubes.  It's easiest to start at the edge.  The spouts are made from pieces of colored paper folded and glued inside the tubes.
  4. Make handles from strips of colored paper or lightweight cardboard.  Pipe Cleaners would work well, too.  Just form a curve and glue the two ends to the container.
  5. Make a cone-shaped lids from sheets of half-circle paper.  Glue on a button or bead knob.  Put the set on a decorated plastic-foam tray, and you're ready to say, "Tea is served."
  • Table Cloth: Twin Sheet, sticky back foam craft
  1. Sticky foam craft to the twin sheets in any design your child wants.
  • Placemats: Contact Paper, glitter, yarn, sequins, stickers
  1. Choose how big you want your placemat.  Then double it.  Fold in half.
  2. Then peel off half of the placemat, up to fold line.
  3. Decorate your placemat.
  4. Then peel off the other side and stick it down.
  • Necklaces:  Tubed macaroni, paint, yarn, wax paper, paintbrush
  1. Place a piece of wax paper down.
  2. Paint the macaroni.  Let dry.
  3. Thread the yarn through the tubes and tie off ends.
  • Rings: Pipe cleaners, beads
  1. Cut a piece of pipe cleaner for your ring.
  2. String beads onto the pipe cleaner and twist the ends together when finished.
  • Mustaches: Sticky back foam craft.
  1. Cut out different sized mustaches out of craft foam and stick them to your face.
  • Happy Puppet Tea Bag: Tea bag in individual package, gogglie eyes, glue, marker, craft stick, paint, yarn, scissors
  1. Paint stick.  Let dry.
  2. Glue eyes on tea bag.  Make a smiling face with marker.
  3. Cut up pieces of yarn for the hair of the tea bag.
  4. Glue tea bag on stick.
