Picture Books:
  1. On the seventh page put the following on top in the middle of the page. 7(make sure its big enough)
  2. Then a little bit below the number 7 put the spelling of the number 7(Seven).
  3. Then directly below the word one put a picture of any Seven items like a toy, flower, or animal (make sure it is seven items).
  4. What is really neat to use for all this is foam letters, letters and pictures.
  5. On the eighth page do what you did with the seventh page except use the number 8, the word eight and a picture of 8 items like 8 toys, 8 flowers, or 8 animals.

Index Cards:

  • Place the number 7 on a card, word seventh on a card, a picture of seven items
  • Also write the number 7 on card, word seven on a card, and a picture of seven items.
  • Add these cards with the your other index word cards.
  • Remember to add the numbers and words to your key chain card holder
  • Remember to keep on teaching  your kid's math.  Here's an example: Write on a card 7+1 = ? on the other side have a picture of eight items. And the number eight written out.  Try not to go above = 8. Keep it real simple.
Identifying Objects:

  1. Find pictures of different objects, and place them in groups, only up to eight objects.
  2. Below each picture write 3 numbers, one being how many objects are in that group.
  3. Then have your child circle the right number of objects in each picture.
  4. For example, You could have a picture of 8 flowers, 8 apples, trees, or 8 shirts.  And below the pictures are the number 6   7    8.
Number Sewing:
  • Don't forget you can have your child sew the numbers 7 and 8.
Memory Game:
  • You and your child can now play their memory game with the numbers 7 and 8.
Food Shapes:

With the food shapes and the cereal have your child sort the food out in different shape groups.  After sorting your child can have a great snack too.

Supplies Needed: Ritz Crackers, Club Crackers, Doritos, etc.

Cereal Sorting Game:

  1. Squares: Chex, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or Captain Crunch
  2. Circles: Cheerios, Fruit Loops, or Apple Jacks
  3. Rectangles: Frosted Mini Wheat
  • You can use these foods for making crafts too.  They can glue the cereal onto construction paper to make houses, trees, the sun and such.  They can also paint the cereal different colors after the glue dries.
  • They can also glue the shapes to make it look like a number.  Then they will have shapes and numbers on one page.

Be Creative:
  • Give your child a calculator to play with.  Have them put in the numbers and add them together.
  • You can play Hopscotch with your child.
  • Give your child a play phone and a telephone book and have them call a place to eat to order something delivered or have them pretend to call someone.  Make sure they know they cannot use the real phone to do this.
  • Blow bubbles and have your child count them before they pop.
  • When walking up or down stairs, have your child count them.
  • When teaching your child about adding things up, try using pennies.  They are worth 1 cent and this will also start teaching them about money too.  Have them use the eight pennies all week, then at the end of the week, you can have them put the pennies in a bank.  When the new week starts, start with ten new pennies and so on through out the weeks.  Then when they get enough pennies saved they can use it to buy themselves something for a reward for all their good work.
  • Play simon says with numbers.  For example:  Simon says clap your hands five times or stomp your feet seven times.
  • Have them practice writing their numbers and drawing shapes in the bathtub.
  • Take a coloring page from their favorite coloring book and write numbers on the different areas on the page.  For example: write the number 1 on the shirt and number 2 on the pants. Or 3 on the trees and grass and 4 on the sun.  Then write the numbers down on a separate piece of paper and write a color next to it.  You can also color the word with the crayon color to help those who don't know how to read their colors yet.  For example: number 1 = red, number 2 = blue, number 3 = green, number 4 = yellow.  Try using the numbers up to 8 this week. You can do this for shapes too.  Instead of numbers use shapes on the coloring page.  I've done this with words too.   Its a fun way to learn for the children.
