Child's First Book
  1. Make sure to add three new sentences to your Child's First Book.
  2. For the word FarmThere are/There are four pigs/There are four pigs on the farm.
  3. For the word CowShe likes/She likes black/She likes black and white cows.

When your child is reading their book to you or anyone else, make sure not to just tell your child the words. Have them spell it out, to see if they can get the word and/or see if they can pronounce it out.

Index Card Project:
Write the words Farm, Cow, Barn on index cards.

  1. On the other side glue a picture of that word or have them draw a picture.
  2. You should have a nice pile of words now.
  3. Have your child make a sentence with the words.

Key-chain Index Cards:

  • Don't forget to add these 3 new words to your key-chain cards.
  • Are you remembering to use these while shopping.
  • Do you need to make another keychain?
  • Are you using the keychain?

Go Fish Game:
  • Remember to add their words to their Go Fish Game.
  • Are you playing the go fish game with your child?
Little Foam Books:
  • After adding the words to your new little foam books, your child will have 17 books to practice in now.
  • Do your kids need new books for their older words?
  • Are your kids still practicing all their words?
What's Missing?
  • On pieces of blank white copy paper, write a word down that your child knows and leave out some letters.
  • Then have your child fill in the missing letter.
  • Let them draw what they just wrote if they can.
Write a Story!
  • Write down all the words your child knows on a piece of paper.
  • Then have your child write a story using the words they know.
  • You can make a book for their new story if you want.
  • They can even draw pictures to go with their story too.
What Rhymes?
  • Write down all the words your child knows on a piece of paper.
  • Then ask your child what might rhyme with each word.
  • If each word is off by one letter, explain this to them and see how easy it is to learn a new word.  For example, Cat, Hat, Mat, Bat, Fat, Pat
WordWorld is very excellent show.  My child and so many others have learned so many new words by watching this show. This is a fun way of learning for kids. WordWorld is on TV everyday on the PBS Channel.  There are also several DVD's too.  Target carries a lot of these.  Some of them are under $10 and can be found on sale.  Amazon also carries these too.
Toy R Us carries WordWorld magnetic plush animals.  Each letter pulls apart from each other. They teach your child the word and they have a nice animal to play with too. Amazon also carries these too.
