There Was A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow!

Craft:

Lady Wheel:
  • Supplies Needed: Construction Paper, Brad, Card Stock, Pictures of Things Swallowed, Picture of Old Lady
  1. Cut out 2 huge circles, out of card stock, for the old lady's belly.
  2. Then cut out a half moon shape inside one of the circles. Just the top inside half of circle.
  3. On the other circle glue the things she swallowed in a circle in the order she shallowed them. Not to close together. You want to be able to see only one of the items in the moon opening at a time. Make sure to have a snowman all put together too. Let dry.
  4. Then put the moon shape on top of the things she swallowed. To hold them together, put a brad in the middle of the circle and you should be able to turn the wheel then.
  5. Cut out a circle for the old lady's head and have your child draw the old lady's face. Could add a yarn for hair and glue a hat on top of the hair.
CottonBall Snowman:
  • Supplies Needed: Construction Paper, Cotton Balls, Glue, Sticks, Crayons, Gogglie eyes
  1. Glue cotton balls onto a piece of construction paper. Your child can pull the cotton balls out a little if they want a bigger snowman.
  2. Have your child draw the rest of the snowman's stuff with crayons.
String Snowman:
  • Supplies Needed: Fishing String, White Sticky Foam, Orange and Black Craft Foam, Gogglie Eyes
  1. Cut a 12 inch string.
  2. Cut out 6 circles, 3 different sizes for snowman. Stick the two matching sizes together onto the string. The string in between the 2 foam pieces. Your child should now have a snowman on a string.
  3. Cut out a carrot nose out of the orange craft foam and a black hat out of the black foam. Glue onto the head of snowman.
  4. Glue on the eyes onto the head.
  5. Hang up.
Snowman Pom Pom Pin:
  • Supplies Needed: White Pom Poms, Glue, Pin, Gogglie Eyes, Orange Foam, Small Black Pom Poms
  1. Glue white pom poms onto a pin. Make sure to put glue in between each pom pom.
  2. Glue gogglie eyes onto the head of snowman.
  3. Then cut out a carrot shape out of orange foam and glue it onto face.
  4. Glue on small pom poms onto the body for the buttons of the snowman.
Snowman Pencil Topper:
  • Supplies Needed: Pipe Cleaner, White Pom Poms, Glue, Orange Foam, Small Black Pom Poms, Gogglie Eyes
  1. Glue 3 white pom poms together. Let dry completely.
  2. Then cut out a carrot shape out of orange foam and glue onto face of snowman.
  3. Glue on eyes onto face of snowman.
  4. Glue on black pom poms onto body for the buttons of the snowman.
  5. Twist the pipe cleaner around a pencil and leave some of the pipe cleaner sticking out the top of the pencil. Glue the bottom of the snowman onto the pipe cleaner. Let dry completely. You may need to use a hot glue gun to really hold it well.
Marshmallow Stamps:
  • Supplies Needed: Marshmallows(Different Sizes), Construction Paper, Paint, Small Paper Plates
  1. Set out different sizes and shapes of marshmallows in front of your child with some paint on some paper plates.
  2. Give them construction paper and let them use the marshmallows as stamps.
Fluffy Snowman:
  • Supplies Needed: Glue, Shaving Cream, Food Coloring
  1. Mix together glue and shaving cream
  2. Make a snowman with the mixture.
  3. To add a colorful snowman or background you can food coloring to the mixture.
Glitter Scene:
  • Supplies Needed: Glue, Glitter, Black Paper, White Crayon
  1. Have your child add glue to piece of black paper.
  2. Then add glitter to the glue, so it looks like glistening snow.
  3. Your child can add more scenery if they want with a white crayon.
Q-Tip Snowflake:
  • Supplies Needed: Q-tips, Glue, Wax Paper, Glitter
  1. Have your child place a big blob of glue onto a piece of wax paper.
  2. Then, have your child place q-tips into the glue to form a snowflake.
  3. Add glitter to the glue. You can add glue to the tips of the other side of the q-tips and add glitter to them too.
  4. Let dry completely.
  5. Then pull the snowflake off the wax paper and hang the snowflake up in a window or where ever your child wants.
Snowflake Paper:
  • Supplies Needed: Plain White Paper, Scissors

Snowman Measure The Snow:
  • Supplies Needed: Paint Stirrer, Light Blue Paint, Black Marker, Sticky Back White Foam, Orange Foam Craft, Glue, Gogglie Eyes, Ruler
  1. Paint a paint stirrer light blue and let dry.
  2. Have your child cut out 2 of each 3 different sized circles out of sticky back white foam. Have your child stick them onto the top of the paint stirrer. Now there is a snowman on each side of stick.
  3. Cut out 2 carrot shapes out of the orange foam and glue it onto the face of snowman.
  4. Glue on gogglie eyes.
  5. Take a black marker and draw on face and button of snowman.
  6. Then take marker and ruler and draw the lines on the stirrer. Like 1 inch, 2 inches, etc.
  7. Then you and your child can track how much snow you guys are getting each time it snows.

Craft Stick Snowflake:
  • Supplies Needed: Craft Sticks, Glue, Glitter, Jewels, Paint
  1. Paint sticks. Let completely dry.
  2. Glue 3 craft sticks together. First take two sticks forming an X and glue together. Then glue the other stick down the middle of the X. Let dry completely.
  3. Then have your child glue on jewels and glitter.
  4. Can hang or put magnet on back of snowflake.
Beaded Snowflake:
  • Supplies Needed: Glitter Pipe Cleaners, Beads
  1. Take 3 pipe cleaner and twist together in the middle. Form a snowflake.
  2. Have your child place beads onto the pipe cleaner.
  3. Turn the pipe cleaner up a little at each end so the beads don't fall off.
Blizzard in a Bottle:
  • Supplies Needed: Water Bottle, Blue and Silver Glitter, Snowflake Confetti, Blue Ribbon, Glue, White Pom Poms, Small Black Pom Poms, Orange Felt or Craft Foam
  1. Add blue and silver glitter, Snowflake Confetti, 3 white pom poms, and 3 small black pom poms into water bottle.
  2. Cut out a carrot shape out of orange felt or craft foam, add to water bottle.
  3. Then add water to the bottle.
  4. Put glue around the inside of cap, where it twists, and screw on cap. This way it won't come off.
  5. Add a blue ribbon around the top of bottle.
  6. Then have your child shake the bottle to make a blizzard.
Scarf:
  • Supplies Needed: Fleece Material(about 52 inches long, 6 inches thick)(used this for my 4-year old), Scissors, (If you want just have your kid stretch out their arms and add another elbow to hand length.)
  1. Cut out the right size scarf for your child.
  2. Then at each end of the scarf, cut little fringes. Don't make the fringes too big. You want them long enough to tie a knot.
  3. Then tie a knot at the top end of each fringe piece, near the scarf, not the end of the scarf.
  4. You don't have to tie a knot, if you don't want too.
Tye-Dye Snowflake:
  • Supplies Needed: Coffee Filter, Food coloring, Eye Drops
  1. Make a snowflake out of a coffee filter.
  2. Make different colored paint with food coloring and some water.
  3. Take an eye dropper and get some of the paint into it.
  4. Then drop some of the paint on the snowflake coffee filter.
Felt Board Craft Snowman:
Activities:

Cotton Ball Game:
  • Supplies Needed: Cotton Balls, 2 Bowls, Spoons, and Blindfolds For Each Team
  1. Divide into 2 teams.
  2. Have someone from each team sit in a chair. Then blindfold them. Hand them an empty bowl and spoon.
  3. Then place cotton balls in another bowl and hold the bowl over their head. They must then try to get a cotton ball and place it into their bowl. Its rather funny because they don't know if they have one or not on their spoon. And if they do it might not make it too the bowl.
Snowman Hunt:
  • Supplies Needed: Pictures of things on a snowman, or use, 3 cotton balls or Pom Poms, Carrot, 3 Buttons or # Pieces of Coal, Something For The Eyes, Scarf, Black Hat, 2 Sticks
  1. Hide the items around the house.
  2. Then have your child find their snowman so they can make it.
Snowman Basketball:
  • Supplies Needed: Buckets, White Sheets of Paper, Marker, Pom Poms, Cotton Balls
  1. Place buckets at different angles and tape a white sheet of paper on each one. Then on each paper write a point value, like 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.
  2. Then have your child stand back and have them throw pom poms or cotton balls into the buckets.
Snow Sculpture Contest:
  • Supplies Needed: Snow
  1. Have each child make a fun sculpture in the snow. It can be any size.
  2. Then you can have a reward for each one, like most original, funniest, cutest, biggest, smallest, tallest, etc.
Snow Experiment:
  • Supplies Needed: Snow, Buckets, Skewers, Chop Sticks, Hot and Cold Water, Magnifying Glass, Black Paper and if you have a microscope and slides.
  1. Put some snow into buckets and bring into house.
  2. Then have your child take skewers and chop sticks and poke them into the snow and see what marks they can make.
  3. Place some snow into a bowl and add hot water to it and let your child see what happens to the snow. Then do it with cold water and show them what happens to it. You can ask them questions like which one melted faster, etc.
  4. Then take a little snow onto a black piece of paper. Take a magnifying glass and have them look at the snow up close.
  5. If you have a microscope, put some snow on a slide and have them look at the snow in the microscope. Make sure they know that each snowflake is different.

    Snow Fun:
  • Supplies Needed: Snow, Buckets for Snow Castles, Sledding, Sticks, Spray Bottles, Food Coloring
  1. Make a snow castle
  2. Have a snowball fight
  3. Go sledding
  4. Make a snowman
  5. Add some food coloring and water to some spray bottles. Then let your child spray the snow and make rainbows or make a colorful snowman.
    Spinner Game:
  • Supplies Needed: Light Blue and Red Card Stock, Brad, Pictures or Drawings of a Snowman(What the cold lady swallowed)(Need one for Spinner and one picture for each person playing)
  1. Cut out an arrow out of the red card stock. Place the red arrow in the middle of the light blue card stock and secure with brad. Make sure it spins.
  2. Then place what the old lady swallowed and glue it onto the light blue card stock. Make sure they are not to close to each other.
  3. Then give each person playing, the cards that have the stuff the old lady swallowed.
  4. Then each player gets a spin and tries to make a snowman. The first person to make a snowman wins.
  5. If you want you can place an old lady on the game in a couple places and you have to get the old lady before you can start building the snowman.
    Ring Toss Snowman Game:
  • Supplies Needed: Cardboard, Construction Paper, Poster Board, Cardboard Egg Carton, Paint, Plastic Lids From Small Coffee Cans, Glitter, and Markers
  1. Cut a large circle from the cardboard and cover it with white paper. Cut a hat shape from black paper or poster board. Glue it in place.
  2. Cut six cups from the carton and trim their edges nearly flat. Paint five cups black and one cup red. Glue these to the white circle to create a snowman's face. The red circle is the nose.
  3. Cut six small circles from white paper. Write a number on each circle, and glue to the top of the cups.
  4. To make the rings, cut the center from the coffee can lids. Cover the rings with glue and sprinkle with glitter to look like snow.
  5. To play, set the snowman board on the floor. Stand at a distance, toss the rings, and add up your score.
  6. When playing this game with others, see who can be the first to score 100 points.
      Play-doh

      SnowBall Relay:
    • Supplies Needed: Straws, Cotton Balls, Bowls
    1. Place a bowl at the start and finish of relay. Add cotton balls to the start bowl.
    2. Then each team player must take a straw and suck a cotton ball at the end of the straw and try to make it to the other bowl at the finish line.
    3. The one who empties their bowl first, wins.
      Indoor SnowBall Fight:
    • Supplies Needed: Paper or Newspaper
    1. Have a snowball fight with paper or newspaper indoors.
      Melting Snow:
    • Supplies Needed: Newspaper, Paper or Styrofoam Ball
    1. Play the game just like "Hot Potato!"
      Snowman Dice Game:
    • Supplies Needed: Dice, 2 Different Sized White Pom Poms or Cotton Balls, Gogglie Eyes, Red, Black and Orange Felt
    1. On a piece of paper, write the numbers 1-6. For each number assign a part of the snowman. For example, 1=head(smaller pom-poms), 2=eyes, 3=scarf(cut a scarf out of the red felt), 4= hat(cut out a hat out of the black felt), 5=carrot nose(Cut out a carrot nose out of the orange felt), 6= body(larger pom-pom)
    2. Each player takes a turn at rolling one die. They must try to put together a snowman.
    3. If you already have a body, you don't do a thing. It's only when you roll something you don't have is when you get to put together the snowman.
    4. The first to put their snowman together wins.
      Instant Snow:
    • Supplies Needed: You can buy this online, I found some on Amazon.com. Hy-Vee carried some too.

      Food:
    • IceCream Snowman
    • Marshmallow Snowman(I found at Wal-Mart in with the Marshmallows on Clearance, they were French Vanilla Flavored)
    • Snowman on a Stick: Skewers, Marshmallows, Pretzel Sticks, and Mini M & M's, Frosting or peanut butter
    1. Place 3 marshmallows onto a skewer.
    2. Push in pretzel sticks for the arms of the snowman.
    3. Put peanut butter or frosting on the marshmallow so you can stick the M&M's on for the eyes and buttons of the snowman.
    • Flour Shell Snowflake: Flour Shells, Oil, Powered Sugar, Cinnamon and Sugar
    1. Have your child tear pieces of the flour shell to make a snowflake.
    2. Put oil into a pan and warm it up.
    3. When oil is hot, place flour snowflake into the oil and cook until crispy.
    4. Place the shell onto a plate that has a paper towel on it. Place a towel on top and dry off the oil a little.
    5. Then remove the paper towels. Put powdered sugar onto the shell or shake cinnamon and sugar onto the shell.
