Child's First Book
  1. Make sure to add three new sentences to your Child's First Book.
  2. For the word MapMy mom/My mom was looking/My mom was looking at the map.
  3. For the word HogThe hog/The hog sat/The hog sat on a log.
  4. For the word Ball: The red/The red ball/The red ball bounced off the table.
When your child is reading their book to you or anyone else, make sure not to just tell your child the words. Have them spell it out, to see if they can get the word and/or see if they can pronounce it out.

Index Card Project:
Write the words Map, Hog, Ball on index cards.
  1. On the other side glue a picture of that word or have them draw a picture.
  2. Have your child make a sentence with the words.
  3. Take the letters of the words and make new words.
Key-chain Index Cards:
  • Don't forget to add these 3 new words to your key-chain cards.
  • Are you remembering to use these while shopping.
  • Do you need to make another keychain?
  • Are you using the keychain?
Go Fish Game:
  • Remember to add their words to their Go Fish Game.
  • Are you playing the go fish game with your child?
Little Foam Books:
  • After adding the words to your new little foam books, your child will have 19 books to practice in now.
  • Do your kids need new books for their older words?
  • Are your kids still practicing all their words?
Alphabet Books:
  • Make a little foam book for the letter A only.
  • On the front cover, write the letter A.
  • Find pictures that begin with the letter A, and glue them onto the pages in the book.
  • Under each picture write what the picture is, in nice big letters.  For example: If you have a picture of an Apple: write apple.
  • Some A words are: Apples, Ape, Angel, Alligator, Ant, Avocado, Apricot
Alphabet Coloring:
  • Find a coloring page for your child to color.
  • Make a color key for letters A-G or so.  A=Blue, B=Red and so on. Next to each letter color a little bit next to it.  So next to the color Blue, color a little blue next to.  So your child is able to understand it. Helps associate the colors with the words.
  • Have your child use the color key for coloring.
Word Search:
  • Think of the words you want your child to search for. Write the words you want them to find on index cards.
  • Now write each letter of the words, onto post-it notes, and stick them up around the house. Example: For ball, write B on a note, A on a note, L on a note, and L on a note.
  • Place the index cards in a pile, upside down.  Have your child draw a card and then have your child try to find the letters on the card.
