  2. Take a black pom pom and add eyes to it.
  3. Cut black pipe cleaners so get 8 legs for the spider and glue onto spider's body.

  5. Can also add spiders hanging down from web from yarn. Then,  hang web up.
  • King-Size Spider: Grocery Bag, Paints, Newspaper, Stapler, Glue, Ruler, Chenille Sticks, Construction Paper, Scissors
  1. For the body, paint a grocery bag and let it dry.  Stuff it with newspaper. Fold and staple the opening closed.  Glue it in place so it is as flat as the bottom of the bag.  Add cut-paper features for the face and glue them on.
  2. For the legs, cut down one side of a grocery bag and cut off the bottom section.  Cut the large rectangle into long 5-inch-wide strips.  Twist chenille sticks together, end to end, as long as each strip.  Glue each paper strip around connected chenille sticks.  Make eight legs.  Paint them.  Staple them onto the spider's body and bend them to shape.
  • Crawling Critters: Paper Plates, Yarn or Pipe Cleaners, Paint, Crayons or Markers, Construction Paper, Buttons, Beads or Gogglie Eyes, Glue, Scissors
  1. Choose the size plate that best suits the critter you want to make.  With markers, crayons, or paint, color the front of the plate as your critter's body.  Or if you want your critter to have a more rounded body, paint the bottom of the plate.
  2. Add a head, legs, and other features with paint, markers, paper cutouts, or chenille sticks.  Use small pieces of yarn dipped in glue to add fuzz to your spider.  Add button, bead, or moveable plastic eyes.
  • Spider Egg Carton: 2 Cardboard Egg Carton Cups, Black Paint, Black Yarn, Glue, Construction Paper, Gogglie Eyes, Black Elastic or String
  1. Poke a hole in the top of the spider and push through string.  Tie a knot on the inside of the cup,

  2. Using the other-colored paper, draw, then cut out, 14 strips, each 12 inches long and 1 inch wide. Use one color or many colors.
  3. Open the large sheet of paper you "sliced" in step 1 and flatten it at the fold.  One by one, weave the colored strips into the large sheet. (On a scrap of paper, test your glue to make sure it does not bleed through the paper.) Glue each strip neatly at each end, not letting the glue show.)

  4. Make sure the body plate is still upside down.  This way the rim legs are curved down, elevating the spider from the surface.  Crimp the middle of each leg slightly to make leg joints and raise the spider even more.  Add paper cutouts for eyes.

Spider Poems
"The Silly Willy Spider"
The silly willy spider
Crawled up on _____'s head!
It crawled all around
Then made a nice soft bed.
It wiggled down his/her shoulder
And jumped down to the floor
Then the silly willy spider
Crawled to someone else for more!

"Little Miss Muffet"
Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet
Eating her curds and whey.
Along came a spider
And sat down beside her,
And frightened Miss Muffet away!

The Spider in the Web
(tune: Farmer in the Dell)

The spider in the web,
The spider in the web
Spin, spin, oh watch him spin,
The spider in the web.

The spider eats a (bug name)
The spider eats a _________.
Spin, spin, oh watch him spin,
The spider in the web.

Tune: I'm a Little Teapot:
I'm a little spider watch me spin
If you'll be my dinner
I'll let you come in
Then I'll spin a web to hold you tight
And gobble you up in ONE BIG BITE!

There's a Spider on the Wall
Tune: Twinkle Little Star

There's a spider on the wall
If he's careful he won't fall
He moves slowly down the wall
I can watch him crawl and crawl
I wonder if he minds my stare
Or does he know and just not care?

Spider, Spider Fingerplay

Spider hurrying,
(Run fingers back and forth.)
Spider scurrying,
See her silken thread.
(Stretch thread between fingers and thumb.)
Spider hurrying,
(Run fingers back and forth.)
Spider scurrying,
See her little web.
