Wacky Wednesday: There was an old lady who swallowed what?


There was an old lady who swallowed what?




Ziploc Old Lady:
  • Supplies Needed: Ziploc bags, Construction Paper, Stapler, Pictures of Animals and Bugs


  1. Make an old lady head(make the open mouth big enough for the animals to hit through.), legs and arms out of construction paper.  
  2. Staple the head, arms and legs to a ziploc bag.
  3. When reading the story put the animals into her mouth like she is swallowing them and they will go into the ziploc bag.  Your child should be able to see all the animals she swallowed in the ziploc bag.

Old Lady Puppets:
  • Supplies Needed: Pictures of all the things she swallowed, Popsicle Sticks, Glue. Click Here for Pictures


  1. Can paint popsicle sticks if your child wants to.
  2. Color the pictures and glue them onto the stick and let it dry.
  3. Read the story and they can use the puppets or set up a little puppet show.
  4. You can set up a puppet show with a tension bar and curtains in a doorway.  You can set up two tension bars with curtains, so they can open them up like a puppet show.
What does she eat next?

  • Supplies Needed: Cardboard, Brand, Red Card stock, pictures of animals, bugs, pie, shells, Glue


  1. Cut a piece of cardboard into a circle like a plate.
  2. Glue the pictures around the circle 
  3. Cut a red arrow out of the red card stock.
  4. Place the arrow in the middle of the circle and hold it in place with a brand.
  5. Spin the arrow with finger and see what she swallows next.

Cereal box old lady:

Your Child's Own Old Lady Book:
  • Supplies Needed: 8 x 10 piece of foam, Card stock, yarn, hole puncher


  1. Cut a piece of foam in half, for front and back cover of book.
  2. Fold pieces of card stock for the pages of the book.
  3. Punch holes in cover and card stock.  Top, middle and bottom.
  4. Tie book together with yarn.
  5. Have your child make up their own story.  With There was an old lady who swallowed......
  6. You can glue pictures of their animals or whatever in their story or have them draw them.

Old Lady Book:
  • Supplies Needed: Cardboard, Cardstock, hole puncher, yarn, glue, markers

  1. Have a rectangle shaped cardboard piece. 
  2. Make a little square book out of cardstock and punch holes and hold together with yarn. 
  3. Glue the book into the middle of the cardboard piece.
  4. Draw a lady's head on the top of the cardboard and draw feet at the bottom.  
  5. Cut hands out card stock and glue onto cardboard.
  6. In the book glue pictures of what she swallowed on one side and on the other side write the story.
